"God has placed me here to encourage and pray."
Brenda is the Support Services Manager at Voice of Hope. You can often see her praying with the staff and the neighbors coming to the Food Pantry. Brenda is a Prayer Warrior and a strong Christian who is constantly providing the staff with encouraging words and an uplifting smile and hug!
Mrs. Shelton has lived in West Dallas for over 40 years and remembers when Voice of Hope was founded in the 80’s. At the time, she had two children. Her daughter was one of the “Super Kids” and her son was a “Voyager.” They loved coming to Voice of Hope!
Brenda has been working at Voice of Hope for four years. She cherishes the fact that she works at a Christian organization where she can pray. She always loves when she is out picking up donations or supplies and someone will recognize the logo on her shirt or van. They will say, “Oh, you work for Voice of Hope! I used to go there as a kid! I remember them teaching us about the Bible.” She loves telling them that Voice of Hope is still open and ministering to families.
She is so proud to work at a place where God’s work is tangible and evident and recounted the time when a family of 5 in great need was gifted a car. It was a blessing to them and to her, to see the joy and happiness on their faces. “God is so Good!” she says, “and it has taught me to be a giver.”
She does admit that her favorite parts of Voice of Hope are the children. Brenda loves when the children are so open. They speak their minds and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Plus, she loves all the little gifts and drawings the children make for her and the staff. Her other favorite part of Voice of Hope is praying with those she serves.
I love helping serve the people that come in need of food. To hear their stories, sometimes it’s heartbreaking, but I know God has placed me here to encourage them to keep their faith and trust God. Before they leave we pray together. I love that more than anything, the praying.
Brenda, just like others in the community who recognize the Voice of Hope logo, appreciates the fact that it has been a stable and safe place for the community where there is food and a prayer and where the children can be safe. It is a place of HOPE! Having a place like Voice of Hope so close to her home and church is invaluable to her.
As a mother of 2 and grandmother of 4, Brenda loves doing yardwork and sitting on her porch admiring all of God’s blessings.
