It’s one of her favorite things to do and she enjoys seeing all of her neighborhood friends and the fellowship with the Christian ladies from the community.
Born at Parkland Hospital, Jearldine has lived in West Dallas her entire life and still lives in the house that her church built for her parents in 1944 on Sylvan Avenue. She attended Booker T. Washington where she received a certificate for being the most studious. She then studied Social Services at Pima College in Tuscon, Arizona. She returned to work in Dallas when her mother died and other than short trips has never left Dallas since.
Jearldine is independent and determined. Characteristics that singled her out when the Dallas City Council was choosing the founding members of the Seniors Affairs Commission Advisory Board. Through her constant advocacy for the West Dallas community, she has helped improve many aspects of daily life for not only the seniors in her neighborhood. One of her proudest achievements is petitioning and successfully working with DART to provide increased bus service to the western side of West Dallas. When she started working on the project there were not any buses running west of Westmoreland. Which made it almost impossible for many in the community to make trips to work, shopping, doctors’ appointments, and to carry on basic daily chores.
Ms. McDaniels has been a part of the Voice of Hope family since the 1980’s and has worked with Voice of Hope on many projects. She also would volunteer some with the scholars and sometimes you would find her playing the piano at events. She still enjoys many of the activities at the main campus. She is looking forward to the Senior trip to the State Fair this next month and Voice of Hope is happy to help Ms. McDaniels whenever possible, from providing her with rides to functions, resources for her still active community endeavors and even helping at her house to keep it safe and maintained.
What a wonderful blessing to have the opportunity to develop a truly mutually beneficial relationship over the years. Voice of Hope looks forward to many more years of enjoying Jearldine’s company!
