![]() Jessica Judith Cavazos grew up in West Dallas with her mom, dad, and two younger sisters, Leslie, 7 & Vanessa, 13. All of whom currently attend Voice of Hope. Jessica attended our ASPIRE Afterschool program and our SOAR Summer Day Camp for 3 years during middle school. She has just graduated from Uplift Heights Secondary and is now working at Voice of Hope this summer as our front desk receptionist. Jessica attended a West Dallas elementary school Gabe P. Allen and goes to the Our Lady of Loudres Church. Her mom works for Insurance Company and her dad is a landscaper During Summer Camp she recalls how she was encouraged to read and maintain her learning from the school year. During the After-school program, she received help with her homework which enabled her to keep up at least a B average through school, graduate high school, and now attend college this Fall. Jessica now,18 years old, this fall will go to Texas A&M Commerce and study criminal justice. After she completes her bachelors degree she plans to attend graduate school, then work in Dallas where she can give back to her community. Jessica fondly reflects on how Voice of Hope not only helped her with homework, but more importantly provided Bible lessons and Bible stories. And during Bible lessons there was time for open discussion and time to share personal stories. Jessica says, “This time provided a safe place to talk about problems, tough experiences; I and my friends could share openly in a safe environment where we could be vulnerable but encouraged through God’s love.” She feels that one of the most important things she learned at Voice of Hope, was to empathize, respect, and to appreciate that other people may have different perspectives, thoughts and opinions. Jessica is so grateful for the encouragement she has received at Voice of Hope to attend college and for the staff helping her through the application process. Jessica is just one example of how Voice of Hope supports scholars through their education and surrounds them with God’s love to provide them with bright, hopeful, productive futures.
